But, what about the more creative element of pretend play? From buzzing around acting like bumble bees on the hunt for pollen to collect to intergalactic space explorers solving untold mysteries of the solar system, my kids can come up with some extravagant imaginative play scenarios. I'm not exactly sure when they first began to take quantum leaps into outer space or practice pretend pollination, but I do know that at ages 6 and 7 now, they've been playing make believe for at least half their short little lives, and probably longer.

This is because very young children learn and grow best through real-world experiences like physical play, playing outside, creative play and social time with family and friends. For children over two years, a balanced approach to screen time can be part of a healthy lifestyle. In general, the key events in development happen in a similar order, but the age they happen might vary for each child.

Visit and explore favourite or new places in your home, like the saucepan drawer or container cupboard. Set up a special play space in your home.
